Video games are electronic games that include user interface interaction in order to generate or produce a visual feedback on various types of visual devices such as personal computers and other gaming consoles like Nintendo Wii, Xbox, PSP, Play Station, and many more. Since its popularity, people have constantly argued with regards to issues that concerns its positive effects to players. People and various organizations have claimed that it has no positive effects since it deteriorates the brain, slows attention span, and promotes nothing good but just violence. However, if children are closely monitored by parents, playing can in fact help a child’s development by assisting in hand-eye coordination.

Though it’s hard to believe, gaming can indeed help facilitate the child’s development according to a research made in New York by the University of Ronchester. The study have concluded that gamers tend to have more awareness in their environment and surroundings while performing tasks such as driving in a busy street than non-gamers.

Playing with electronic gaming consoles and personal computers usually require the interactive involvement of every player. The player should first start identifying and knowing every character in the game and chooses one that will act for him. This stage usually excites the player thus can have positive effects. Since gaming requires active interaction, it is much better than just watching non-sense TV programs. Playing also improve gamers’ skills in planning, problem-solving, estimation, and analysis since these are also required to battle off opponents.

Also while playing electronic gaming consoles, the player learns to also manage his or her resources like people, armor, and time. Though these learnings are from virtual activities, the gamers will also be able to apply these things in real life. They get to recognize all kinds complicated situations and will be able to react to them with dedication and determination. And as gamers learn to map their way in the virtual world, they will also learn to deal with the same kind of scenarios in the real world.

Gaming also allows children and adults to channel their emotions in a positive manner. Deep emotions of frustrations, hatred and anger can be easily released and enacted through playing electronic consoles rather actual physical violence. Players also get to gain new friends whom he shares the same liking for a particular game and can become their temporary companion during play thus teamwork and cooperation are also learned. And because these players do not see each other in person except in the virtual world, issues about cultural backgrounds and ethnicity is never questioned. There are simply no biases in creed, cast, or color.

Video games are not evil when played in moderation and as long as there is proper guidance from parents. They are just mediums and people should not look at them badly. The battle between good and evil all lies in the person and not on any other tangible things.
