Besides the infamous Texan Holdem Poker, there can be a number of varieties of other poker card games which players can play in their homes or online. Any player can even use these other variants to improve their poker skills for Texas Holdem and also to make more money out of it. The following are short descriptions of rules and virtues of playing poker variants such as the popular Omaha and 7 card stud.

The Omaha Poker game is played quite differently from that of Texas Holdem and can be usually found in many poker rooms online. For newbie who do not know much about this game, it may look somewhat similar to Texas Holdem. The difference between the two lies in the rules of the game. In the Ohama Poker, the players obtain 4 cards instead of 2 and each player must play using 2 cards from their hand. This particular change in the rules makes Ohama different from Texas Holdem game since it opens a whole new multitude of possibilities in drawing. This game is usually played high and low format or just high only. For high and low version, the pot with the lowest hand can be split by the highest hand. Many players would even prefer playing Ohama compared to the Texas Holdem since the player with a good hand usually has greater chance of winning the pot.

The 7 Card Stud Poker used to be one of the most popular variations of poker before Texas Holdem took its place. Except for the hand rankings, the Stud is totally different from that of Holdem. This game can be played either high/low split or high only. Each player of the game place a bet and is then dealt with 2 cards that are faced downwards and with one card that faces up. The card with the lowest up must either open the check or bet hand. If one player bets, then typically the other players must either make a raise, fold, or call. For each round, there should be a maximum of 1 bet and 3 raises.

Once the above initial round has been completed, players who are still in the hand are each dealt with another card that faces up. Again, the betting round starts but this time it is lead by the player showing the strongest hand.

As soon as the above round has been completed, the hand will continue in the same way with each played round until each player now have 6 cards. And finally, the 7th card can now be dealt face down to start off another betting round. Unlike the Texas Holdem, the 7 Stud Poker have many betting rounds.

Other variants of poker card games include the 5 card stud, Crazy Pineapple, Triple Draw, Razz, and Draw.
